Fire Hydrants

The Utilities Division flushes all public fire hydrants in the spring and summer. Hydrant flushing serves two purposes: to ensure proper operation and to purge stagnant water and minerals from the distribution system. Hydrants identified as needing maintenance are repaired following the completion of flushing.

Help keep the areas around hydrants clear by removing snow to create a 36-foot round clearance, trimming any brush, tree limbs, or weeds so hydrants are accessible to firefighters and maintenance employees.

If you see anyone operating a hydrant other than a firefighter or City maintenance employee (look for the City vehicle), immediately notify the Utilities Division at 952-985-2700, or call 911 after hours.
